Good Conversation with Good Friends

From July 2007
Nothing beats the blues like having some good conversations with good friends. I've had the chance in the last two days to converse with three different good friends. One of these friends is someone I talk to all the time about everything, one is a friend that I have a good chat with several times a year, and the third is someone I haven't conversed with in a very long time and out of the blue we had a great chat. All of these have been of great value to me and have blessed me greatly! Thanks guys!!

1 Comment: It is great, isn't it? I haven't been much of a talker since I quit smoking. I used to smoke and talk on the phone. Now it's doesn't sound so great. (Celia)

Emotions Gone Amuck... AGAIN!

From July 2007
I'm really just not sure what is wrong with me this summer, but I seem to be hitting the same emotional brick wall over and over again... and dangit, it hurts! I am NOT a cryer, yet lately every little thing sets me off (mostly my own thoughts). I don't like not being in control of these things at all.

Some of it, I'm sure is my latest inability to cope very well with loneliness. As I get older, being single has shown its benefits often. But at the same time, I also realize how the clock is ticking and sometimes a deep feeling of loneliness hits. Usually, it lasts a day and I'm over it, back to my mostly content single life. NOT lately. I almost fear this is something I'm going through to prepare me for something else... just a gut feeling I'm having. It's not a feeling I'm liking too much. SIGH... What's this single girl to do?!

An Insightful Horoscope... Again

From 7/7/2007
Once again, my horoscope for the day seems to be right on. And today should be a perfect day, since it is 07-07-07.

But alas, noticing the mood I woke up in (somewhat melancholy) added to what my horoscope predicts (see below), I doubt it. There's really not much more I can say... sigh.

Aquarius: January 20 - February 18
It may seem like neither side of the bed is the right side to wake up on, dear Aquarius.
The only solution you may be able to come up with today is to just go back to bed.
Focus on your heart, because it is trying to tell you that it needs some attention.
Emotions may be running quite high, so be extra careful of how you treat yourself and others.

A Positive Way To Spend My Vacation Time

From 7/5/2007
I've had this whole week off from work. And as I stated in a recent entry on my Yahoo 360 blog, it didn't start out to be that cheery. I think my hormones were a bit out of whack, although for no particular reason. Anyway...

Once the week got going, I put all my energies into helping a good friend who had surgery on Tuesday. She had to have her rotator cuff repaired on her right shoulder, and therefore has been quite layed up. It's amazing how much we rely on BOTH our arms and hands and now that she can only move ONE for several weeks, it has been quite challening for her to do pretty much anything, especially get dressed. After picking her up from the hospital on Tuesday, I took her home and spent the night at her house (since she lives alone). I also spent the day there yesterday as well. It was a somewhat uneventful Fourth of July for both of us, but it felt good to be doing something good.

Sometimes I feel like I get really caught up in my own life and worrying about my own needs, which is logical, since I also live alone, am the only "bread winner" that I can rely on, and therefore have turned my lifestyle into one that is quite independent. I don't like relying on others, and neither does this friend of mine. But it was a bit humbling for both of us to have to work together. I had the opportunity to serve someone else besides myself, and she had to humble herself enough to ask for help repeatedly. It was quite hard for her to ask, especially when she needed help getting dressed.

At the end of the day, we were able to watch the town's small fireworks display, which added a bit of 4th of July spirit to our otherwise "normal" day. Today, I'm actually at home, but I've already called and checked in on her and will probably stop by her house for a while later today. It's not been a bad way to spend my time off.

Emotions Gone Amuck

From June 2007
I had the weirdest day yesterday! I'm not quite sure what was up... but I was just not right. I woke up not feeling quite well. I had a bit of an upset stomach or something. As the morning progressed however, I started to feel much better. Whew! But then in the afternoon, I started to feel weird again. I didn't feel outright sick, but just not myself. The weirdest part of the day kicked in as evening approached. Since I wasn't feeling all that energetic, I decided to just kick back on the couch and watch some tv (Sunday night hosts some of my favorites). As I started to get into the shows, I noticed I was becoming quite a bit emotional. There were a few scenes that could make ya choke up a bit, but I started to really cry. I realized that maybe the storyline was what got me started, but it wasn't what was maintaining this emotional outburst. I was feeling very alone and sad. This is not a usual thing for me. In fact, it's pretty rare most of the time (although this has happened before, so it wasn't new either). Anyway, I finally got a grip on things, and started to watch something different. And it started again!! For the life of me, I could not figure out what the hell was wrong with me! It's almost a bit amuzing now .

But ya know what? Sometimes a good hard cry can actually feel good in the long run. I went to bed with a "crying headache" but this morning I felt quite good. I can tell the lonliness had a little bit of an effect on me, because I felt a bit of motivation to go guy hunting today - (now that's really funny!!)

Some Much Needed Vacation Time

From June 2007
I'm free from bondage (work) this entire week! Yay!! I always have quite a bit of accumulated vacation time by the time summer hits. And since work slows down just a little bit during the summer months, I usually like the fact that I've saved it all and can take it off in different chunks of time. Some summers I've tacked on a couple of days to each weekend, so that I have 3 or 4 day weekends each week. But this year, I have so much time (some of it was carried over from last year) that I decided I just really needed to take a week here and there. And this is one of them.

Sooo, anyway, here I am, already at Tuesday. I seem to always create a long list of things that I need to get done (like spring cleaning, yard work, etc.) and things I want to do (like visiting some friends, scrapbooking, playing the SIMS on my computer, read a book, etc.) I never do get it all accomplished. In fact, sometimes I feel more busy during weeks like this than I do on regular weeks!

For example, yesterday I spent the morning paying bills and then running a couple of errands. I was trying to get a care package mailed to one of my nephews who is out of the country. Since I was doing it in conjunction with his mother (my sister-in-law), I went to the store that she works at to finish it up and get it ready to mail. Unfortunately, things weren't as ready to go as I had hoped. I had already made plans for the afternoon to visit a friend, so I was on a bit of a time crunch. My sister-in-law doesn't respond well to a "hurry up" mode. She doesn't get grumpy or anything like that. She just continues at her usual casual pace. Therefore, I started to get impatient. Finally, after boxing up what we did have ready and addressing it, I had run out of time, and so I left the box and some cash with her to take to the Post Office to mail. But, when she went, there were complications and they needed my signature since I was the sender, so today I have to go and try again. Sigh...

This really isn't that big of deal since I had originally planned on mailing it myself, except that I don't see it being a fast errand to run. With this particular sister-in-law, tasks to be done usually take a bit longer than they should. This is when I often slip into my independent mode of "just let me do the whole thing by myself, it would be much easier". I'm getting really bad at relying on others!

Anyway, enough rambling for now. I'm off to get some of those tasks done... like doing dishes and mopping the floor. How Fun!!!

Lazy Summer Days

From 6/30/2007
Man am I just on a lazy binge lately. I really haven't had much motivation to do anything. I'm not sure if it's because typically things are slow for me during the summer (in regards to work) and so I tend to really shut down, or if I'm going through some stage. I've been using up some of my vacation days this month, because it is such a convenient time to do so, and all I want to do is stay home. And while at home, I just want to read a book, watch a movie or tv, scrapbook, and play on the computer. I have done a bit of spring cleaning (a little late for spring, I know), but other than that, I'm a bum. And yet, it really does feel good! So maybe I should stop feeling so guilty about it and let myself enjoy it, right?!

1 Comment: I'm being a lazy butt too! I always stay home though, so that's nothing new for me. How are you liking this heatwave? Pretty miserable! Maybe I should move to the NE or NW where it's cool!!!!!!!!! (Celia)

Monday Blues & Mother's Day in Review

From May 2007
Sometimes I really do hate Mondays. I can't believe the weekend is over. I just read my Saturday entry, full of hope of what the weekend could bring and now it's all over. (Gee, even my writing is dreary - lol). I just really don't want to be at work, that's all. If I were at home today, I'd be happy as a clam!

Yesterday ended up being a pretty nice day including the Mother's Day part. I got up the gumption to go visit a friend (whom I've talked about before on this blog). I really felt an inner push that it was time to just go stop by her house -- I haven't seen nor talked to her since February. I took her one of the Lavender plants that I purchased at Home Depot and filled out a friendship card and wished her a happy Mother's Day. I ended up staying and visiting with her for over 3 hours. I don't quite know anymore why we don't do things more often. I realize we are both dealing with issues with each other -- I think I know what mine are, but I'm not sure what hers are. My guess is that her physical condition (being confined to a wheelchair) is the largest issue -- causing me guilt for not being there for her more often and probably causing her a level of depression that makes her isolate herself from others. I miss her dearly though... and I keep telling myself it doesn't have to be that way. I can be near her and have all the fun times that we used to have before the accident. We talked about getting together to scrapbook. I need to make sure I push that and make it happen. I'd like to do something with her at least every other week.
I also spent some time with my mom. One of my brothers invited her out to his house. Two of my nieces cooked their mom and my mom dinner. It was yummy and a nice visit. I also gave her a lavendar plant and a scrapbook page that I made a duplicate of from one of my own pages. It was a dedication to her as one of my favorite people. It made her cry , which means "it hit the spot". I don't spend as much time with my family anymore, unfortunately. Part of my increasing independence from others creeping in as well as my time being so limited anymore.

AND then at the end of the day, I had a nice phone conversation with a friend that lives in Arizona. We've been talking more regularly lately and it's nice to get to know him again.
The day was filled with lots of reconnecting. Great way to spend a Sunday! I just want to have more days like that instead of sitting at my desk pushing paper - lol

It's Valentine's Tomorrow... Sigh

From February 2007
It's Valentine's day tomorrow ... what to do? what to do? My answer to that is IGNORE IT!
I read the blog written by the 360 team and it sparked a few thoughts of my own on the big LOVE day.

I don't think I've ever actually been in a relationship when Valentine's day rolled around , or if I was, it was a fairly new relationship that didn't merit any special attention brought on by the day. But even though I don't have many memories associated with Valentine's (beyond the childhood ones of riding the school bus home with a hand made paper packet filled with schoolmate's valentine wishes and a belly ache from all the cookies and candy), I do regard the day as any hopeful (or probably more like hopeless) romantic would. I love the color red, I love hearts , I love "LOVE", I love sappy songs and chick flick romantic comedies, I love greeting cards and flowers and chocolate, and I love any kind of romantic mushy sentiment.

But since I don't plan on any of these coming my way tomorrow from some hunky guy, I plan to just go into denial and pretend none of it exists. It will probably work clear up until the moment that some office co-worker gets a huge bouquet of roses. So the back up plan is to then become the stereotypical bitter single woman.

Ok, so to lighten it up just a bit so that no one reading this thinks I really am a bitter old single woman, I am happy for everyone who has someone to celebrate with. And really, it is a great day for me to also tell everyone I love (even if not romantically) that they are important to me.
Then I can go into DENIAL for the rest of the day.... LOL

A PIVOTAL MOMENT FROM A PIVOTAL MOMENT

FROM THURSDAY, AUGUST 31, 2006
Tonight I met with my journal group. I really wasn't much in the mood to go, even though I was pleased with the page I had created. It has been a rough week again at work; not so much due to the heavy workload, but because I have just not been feeling like myself--emotionally. And after another day of trying to sort through my many thoughts and feelings (let alone trying to focus on getting some much needed planning for our pre-service training done) I just didn't think I could handle meeting with a group of women who seem so close to each other, yet I hardly know.
But as we sat down around the hosts living room, and each person began to read and share their experiences and pivotal moments in life, I began to notice how positive and supportive they were to each other. Everyone listened attentively to what each person had to say, made supportive remarks, and basically acted like personal cheerleaders to those sharing their thoughts. It was at this time that I feel like I had a sort of pivotal moment in the midst of everyone sharing past pivotal moments.

I have been so negative lately, and I couldn't up to this point figure out why. I had a feeling that I was actually angry about something, yet I couldn't admit to myself what I was angry about. But here were all these positive people, and it was such a contrast to my mood, that soon it started to sift away. I've always believed that when people become defensive or angry, it's usually because they are feeling insecure about something. And while driving home, it dawned on me--I have been feeling insecure about probably every single one of my friendships lately. And sadly, I have been dealing with it in a very selfish manner. One I have just been pulling away from--for quite some time. Another I have been losing patience with over all their complaining and negativism (look who's calling the kettle black). And another I have been extremely nit-picky with, pointing out and exaggerating faults. And yet even another, I've just not been very supportive in some life changes they've decided to take on.

But why? I think I'm seriously afraid of losing them, or at least some of those I referred to above. I'm afraid that with what is currently happening in theirs and my life, that I'm losing the level of closeness we've had. Isn't it so strange how we build up walls to protect ourselves from being hurt. It's actually just plain stupid.

Whew! What a big circle of realization that was... but now that I have figured it out, I sure would like to have more of what these women seem to have with each other, in my own circle of friends. And now I just need to take the steps to make it so.

I AM JUST NOT IN THE MOOD...

FROM TUESDAY, AUGUST 22, 2006
I can tell I'm facing some grumpy days this week. I'm just not in the mood to be at work, to interact with people, and to deal with coworker's inadequacies. It's really bad timing to feel that way, since we are now full swing into our two weeks of "enrollment fair" where we have appointments every hour or so with various "parents" who are enrolling their children into the program. (Whew! That was a long sentence!!) But enrollment fair always brings on a crazed atmosphere around the office, and when ya gotta rely on computers, it can really be frustrating. I feel a bit sorry for our brand new tech person, who is in a bit over her head right now trying to handle all the computer issues without the full knowledge of how to. I kind of just stuck to my little corner of the world (otherwise known as my office), completed three enrollments this morning, and worked on some other high priority tasks this afternoon, while the rest of the building buzzed about. Thankfully, I didn't have any appointments this afternoon, because that was when quite a few of the computers decided to disconnect from the server and cause those who were doing enrollments to lose all their entered info. Yikes!

LONG TIME, NO BLOG

FROM SATURDAY, AUGUST 19, 2006
It's been about a week since I last entered a blog. I guess I've been caught up in the things happening at work and when I come home in the evenings, I'm just not in the mood to be on the computer, nor to think about what to write. I also had to work a couple of late evenings this week and I've been feeling a bit under the weather -- allergies and sinus issues -- blech! But with all these events and things to tie up my time, I really don't have too much to write about. I would think that I would have all kinds of tales to tell.

If anything, the past couple of days have been a bit down. Yesterday, I had to fire someone. I hate doing that. And this poor girl had just begun employment with us two weeks ago. She was young, and had recently finished her degree in early childhood education, yet she just did not do well in the classroom where she was being trained/mentored.

Also, my good friend (the same friend I was referring to in my last entry), who I also work with, handed in her resignation yesterday. Due to her health/medical conditions, she has decided she and the organization would be better off if she left. It was so sad... especially for her. I do worry about her. In some ways I think this is a good idea and then in other ways I think it's bad. Imagine how she feels!

Starting next week, work gets even more crazy. We begin our enrollment fair -- where parents come in and enroll their children for the next school year, which starts towards the end of September. But I am enjoying the thoughts of fall nearing. This week it has felt a bit like fall and I love it. We're supposed to have some high temps again next week. But I can handle it because I know it won't last long.
